Our 1st Day - November 5, 2021

We all had a wonderful sleep at Cape Verde Hotel and after breakfast, Cornelius and Lizette joined us.  We also received our rental car at the hotel and off we went.  We drove through Cape Town where Cornelius pointed out his childhood home and shared some stories of growing up in Cape Town.  Our first stop was at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch.  Our tour guide explained lots about ostrich and we proceeded outside to feed them.  They attacked the food very vigourously and even I gave it a go.  Cornelius, Ken, Gary and Rose all sat on an ostrich.  They also had emu, tortoises and goats there.  It was a really interesting stop.  We then went for lunch by the ocean to the 'Dam Huis'.  It was a building from the 1700s and the food was delicious.

It was then time to go to our rental house.  It is located in Camps Bay, a very exclusive community at the base of Table Mountain.  After we settled in, we went to the waterfront and took a sunset cruise on a catamaran.  The bay had large swells, but it was so fun.  We saw several seals and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.  We then drove to a restaurant for supper.  It was also on the waterfront, but must of been 'the' spot for young people on Friday night.  It was a loud atmosphere where we were first seated, so we asked to move inside and for the music to be turned down which they happily complied with.  The food was also outstanding.  South Africa is experiencing a lot of hydro blackouts right now, but most businesses have generators, so life goes on.  We returned to the house and sat and talked for a while, but headed to bed around midnight as we had to be up at 5 a.m. to hike Table Mountain!
