November 10, 2021 - Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Franschhoek

Today was Fred's turn to be sick.  He was up all night with diarrhea and he opted to stay home for the day to recover.  He spent most of the day sleeping and was still not feeling great when we arrived home.

This morning we split up into 2 groups.  One group went back up Table Mountain with John and Wendy because they had not yet arrived when we did that on Saturday.  The other group went to Signal Hill to watch Ken parasail off the hill.  We then met together again just at the bottom of Table Mountain and started on our way to the town of Franschhoek.  This is the area of South African that the French Huguenots were banished to in the 1600s.  Much to the dismay of the dutch, they flourished there and now there are many wineries, fruit farms and a beautiful city.  On the way, we stopped at the Wimpy for gas and Cornelius suggested we also eat a late breakfast there as they were well-known for delicious and well-priced food.  He was right!  Pete, Linda and I stayed in the city to explore there and do some shopping, while the others went on a vineyard tour on a tram.  We visited a reformed church where the greeter was a woman who immigrated to SA in 1949 with her parents.  Then we went to a small market selling African trinkets and visited several lovely stores.  We stopped at a nice restaurant where Linda and I did a wine tasting and Pete did a beer tasting.  We also had a lovely dessert of whipped cream, fruit, meringue and lemon curd.  Lovely and fresh.  The rest of the women, except Trudy joined us around 3:30.  The guys did not get back to us until almost 6 p.m., 2 hours later than agreed!  We then headed back to the house and spent the evening just snacking.
