November 12 - Leaving Cape Town

Today we had to leave the house by 10 a.m.  Our first stop was the waterfront to print 2 forms for each person to enter Tanzania.  One was our negative PCR test which had been done at the house by a nurse the day before and the other was a health questionnaire.  After a fair bit of fooling around, this was finally accomplished!

We then drove to the botanical gardens at the base of Table Mountain and near to the airport called Kirstenbosch.  It was a really magical place with such diverse plants.  There was also a garden centre, where we could see plants for sale for the home gardener and we bought some Protea seeds.

Around 2:30 we left for the airport where we dropped the rental cars and went through customs.  Our flight left for Johannesburg around 6 and it was a 1 1/2 hr. flight.  We had 2 hours in the airport there and boarded again around 9:30 p.m. for a flight leaving 10  We were let out and boarded right on the tarmac but were shuttled in buses to the terminal.

We arrived in Dar es Salaam at 1:30 a.m. where we had a rapid covid test, filled out forms and more forms, were finger printed, picked up our luggage, had it scanned again and were finally met by our safari guides around 3:30 a.m.  Another 1/2 hr for a quiet drive to our hotel, more forms, room keys and off to bed.  It was not until after 5 a.m. that we went to bed.  In the morning we are having a meeting with Emily from African Safaris at 11:00 a.m. by the hotel pool.
