November 9, 2021 - Cape of Good Hope
Today was a day we had been looking forward to and it did not disappoint. We drove to the Cape of Good Hope. It was a lovely, scenic drive and we stopped at several lookouts on the way. We also stopped for brunch in a town called Scarborough. The Cape was beautiful and rugged. We hiked to the highest point where there was a lighthouse and then most of the group went down a path overlooking False Bay where there was the possibility of a whale sighting and Pete and I hiked the other direction, where there was a large set of stairs down to a beautiful white sand beach. We dipped our toes in the water of the southernmost point of land on the African continent. Amazing! When we returned to the rest of the group we decided to hike to seal beach, another part of the cape while some of the group drove to that area. On the way we saw several Elan and a gecko.
On the way back to our house in Camps Bay we stopped in Simons Bay to visit the penguins there. It was amazing to see them. It is now molting time.
After arriving home, Pete and I went for a refreshing swim in the pool. We got very warm and sweaty on our hikes, so a nice refreshment.
Cornelius did not accompany us today, as he awoke with a fever and aches and pains. We were relieved to see him up and around when we arrived back, and I took his temperature, which was normal. Thank goodness it was nothing serious.
We went for a short walk along the beach in Camps Bay before dinner and ate at the Surf Shack in Camps Bay. Another delicious meal and it certainly was not a shack!
Just a lovely picture of you and Peter. It is definitely a farmable reminder of your trip!
